The Colosseum

Today we woke up early once again and headed to the Colosseum. I'm getting no sleep here, but I figure I can when I'm back in the US (which is also not true because I will have to wake up at 6am every morning for work). The Colosseum is massive! It is crazy to think that this huge Colosseum was used to send people to fight and kill other people. Where the floor was is now degraded away but you can see the underground rooms where the people were held. The stadium seating is also worn away but you can tell where people used to sit. We were able to walk to the second floor and took pictures with our Umass t-shirts on and other videos. From the Colosseum we walked across the street to all the ruins. It takes a while to walk through all of the ruins. After a while it just turns into a lot of old rocks haha! But it is very cool, you can see where old houses and rooms were, huge Roman columns, and statues that now line gardens.

Where do we all go to school? Can you tell?

After this we were starving for lunch and Adrianne had told me that near the Colosseum is where she ate some of the best cannolis. We found that street and before getting a cannoli found a place to get sandwiches. Mine was so good! It was only ham and mozzarella cheese on a different kind of bread that I have never seen before. We headed to the cannolis after and Adrianne was right, best I've ever eaten! We did some souvenir shopping and headed back.

When it was finally dinner time we decided to treat ourselves a little bit. I ordered lasagna and after eating it here in Rome I do not think I'll be able to eat it back home! I also tried everyone else's meals and they were amazing. Dan ordered the best Pesto I have ever tried and Suzanne ordered this pasta with cream sauce and very crunchy bacon (just the way I like it!). That night we headed back to see the Colosseum all lit up at night. We got there too late so it was mostly dark but some of it was lit up and we got an awesome picture in front of it. He headed back to the Trevi fountain again for a little bit and back to bed.
