The Vatican

Today we woke up early and headed to the Vatican. It was amazing. We waited in line and headed inside. Adam and Dan were both wearing UMass t-shirts and as we were walking in and priest asked if we were from Boston. We told him we arw all from Ma and go to Umass. He said he is also from Ma and when was younger actually lived in Amherst until moving out to the Boston area. He told us his name is Brother Louis and e had 30 min to spare to give us a quick tour. For the next 30 minutes he gave us the most exciting history lesson I had ever heard telling us things such as where the Vatican is built is actually a burial ground for Christians. During the time of the Romans Christianity was looked down upon and persecuted against. Because we only worship one God and we call other Christians our brothers and sisters the Romans looked at Christianity as a atheistic religion that performed incest with their "brothers and sisters". The Christians who refused to convert we're tortured and killed. Where the Vatican was built is where all of these Christians were buried.

The inside of the Vatican is enormous. I won't even try to describe it, I will just put up pictures.
From the Vatican we walked to the museum that headed to the Sistine chapel. Absolutely amazing. The museum that leads you there is full of Roman statues and religious paintings. The ceilings are covered with sculptures, gold, and paintings from Roman times and of religious figures. If my house had ceilings like that I would lay there all day just staring at them.

We finally made it to the chapel. There was a small alter and every inch of the wall was painted with Jesus, apostles, and other religious figures. I snuck a few pictures but don't tell the guards.

After this we jus went walking. We went looking for a bridge that is very famous for people putting locks with something written on it. Once the lock is put on there no one can get it off. There are hundreds of locks there but unfortunately we could not find it.
We stopped at a restaurant and all ordered our own pizza with a different topping an all shared. It was some of the best pizza YUMMM!

After resting in the hostel for a while we headed back to the hostel to rest for a while. The boys made sangria and the girls made sandwiches. We bought sandwich stuff at the grocery store and made some of the most amazing sandwiches with wheat bread, different kinds of ham, tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese. If you are traveling and worries about money I highly suggest you do this. We also did this the first day and it comes out to about only 4 euros each. We sat in the kitchen of the hostel drinking our sangria, eating our sandwiches, and watching the AC Milan V Barcelona game. What a life!
